Your Instructor
Marquis Barnes
Filmmaker · Director · Author
Born and raised in Atlanta, Marquis discovered his passion for filmmaking at 17 and never looked back. After studying broadcast journalism at Samford University, he built a career that took him from reality TV and music videos to Hollywood feature films — including Truth or Dare, Trading Paint with John Travolta, Line of Duty, and Embattled.
Across commercials, music videos, and branded content in Atlanta and Los Angeles, Marquis developed a deep understanding of every department on set. He created Frame × Frame Academy to give the next generation of filmmakers the structured, practical education he wished he had — the kind that actually prepares you for the real world of production.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Frame × Frame is for anyone who wants to tell better visual stories — whether you're a beginner picking up a camera for the first time, a videographer looking to transition into directing, a content creator wanting more cinematic work, or a film student seeking practical, real-world knowledge. If you care about the craft, this is for you.
Not at all. While we cover professional cinema cameras and lenses, the principles taught in Frame × Frame apply to any camera — including your smartphone. Great filmmaking starts with understanding light, composition, and movement, not with a $50,000 rig.
Book One is a physical, portable foundation volume with embedded QR codes that link straight to video lessons. The online course goes deeper with extended walkthroughs, production demonstrations, and content not in the book. More volumes are in production.
Each book contains QR codes placed alongside key lessons. When you scan a code with your phone, it takes you directly to a video lesson that demonstrates the concept you're reading about. It's the best of both worlds — the focus and portability of a physical book combined with the visual power of on-screen instruction.
